About Me

Hello!
My name is Rychelle Brittain.

I am a professional Japanese-to-English translator specializing in dialogue and audiovisual translation. I help creators take stories rooted in Japanese culture and share them with a global audience.

I started my freelance translation career in 2022 after graduating from Japan Visualmedia Translation Academy (JVTA).

I am an ongoing member in a number of professional associations, including Subtle and JAT.
I am also the co-chair of JATENT, JAT’s entertainment special interest group.

My Approach: A Creative Partnership

As a professional entertainment translator, my goal is for your work to be celebrated, not just understood. I create seamless experiences in neutral, global English that honor your original intent to ensure that your project has the largest possible global footprint to “spark joy” in as many new people around the world as possible.

I view every project as a creative partnership. I will work with you as your trusted creative partner to ensure that your intent is captured and conveyed in the most appropriate manner.

And as a professional freelancer, I am a staunch advocate for our industry. I currently serve as the co-chair of JATENT and am a vocal supporter of #TranslatorsInTheCredits. I believe that fair working conditions and proper recognition for linguists are the best ways to ensure the long-term survival of quality storytelling.
